Gillette Introduces Flexball Technology at Esquire's Pop-Up Barber Shop

I remember watching famous TV series with my brothers back in the early 90's.  There were a lot of Gillette ads being aired during commercial breaks.  It showed the superiority of the two blade razor versus the single blade razor in doing the job with fewer strokes.

Our eldest brother Robert, predicted that soon Gillette will introduce a three blade safety razor.  He was right, in 1999, the Mach 3 was launched in the Philippines.  Gillette spent $750 million on the research and development of the Mach 3.  It was intriguing at that time, and I got one.  It promises much less irritation and you can shave against the grain.

Robert made another prediction, that soon a four blade safety razor will be available.  He was right again, a four blade safety razor was made available by a different brand.  Being one of the most creative and imaginative person I know, he laughingly predicted a five blade safety razor is not impossible soon.  This time I was doubtful, and guess what, he proved me wrong again for the third time.

Gillette will not be outdone, and being a leader in innovation, they launched the Fusion line in 2005, with five blades spaced closer together to help reduce pressure per blade resulting for a more comfortable shave.

When Tina asked me if I wanted to experience a gentleman's version of me-time, I got excited.  Gillette partnered with Felipe and Sons barbers and Esquire magazine to treat gentlemen with various grooming services and old fashioned barber's massages.  The main highlight of the night is the showcase of its latest Fusion ProGlide with FlexBall Technology.

Guests were treated with an array of food and drinks.

"Do you have a preferred hairstyle"? My barber asked me.

Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits and Summer of '69 by Bryan Adams provided our background music.  Yeah!

You can't go wrong with a contemporary clean cut

Say cheese!

Another cool barber on my right with a properly trimmed beard "a la" James Harden of the Houston Rockets.

Gillette Fusion ProGlide safety razors with Flexball Technology were used by the shave masters of Felipe and Sons barbers.

Increased manly confidence in just an hour.

I brought my new Gillette Fusion ProGlide with Flexball Technology for a product review during our recent weekend Staycation at The Marriot Hotel, Manila.

A highly built quality razor with a redesigned handle

The Flexball reminds me of a basketball due to its color.

The 5 blades are spaced closer making it a lot more comfortable than the 3 bladed Mach 3

Easy to rinse blades in running water.

After bath is the best time to shave while those hairs are still soft

My event loot kit didn't come with a partner Gillette Fusion ProGlide Shave Gel, but I'm glad I have a travel size Gillette Foamy on my grooming kit.

Take your time to shave in the direction of hair growth.  For a closer shave, carefully shave going against the grain.

The Flexball is responsible for the razor to swerve and pivot every contour of your face for the smoothest most precise shave you can get.

A face ready for the interview with the company president.

Product Test Verdict:

In the end, it's not difficult to give this a high grade.  The Flexball Technology is not a marketing gimmick.  It works, and it gave me the smoothest shave out of all the Gillette models I've tried before.

Is it a worthy upgrade from my current manual razor?  Definitely!  It delivers the product promise and best of all, it's now available for every gentleman out there.
