A Pink Party to raise Breast Cancer Awareness with Health Cube + A 3D Tomosynthesis Mammogram Give-away!

Breast Cancer hits home to many of us.  I'm pretty sure there is a friend, a cousin, a sister, a mother, an aunt or a grandmother who had it or who are currently waging a war against breast cancer.  The statistics are high, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime and unfortunately, the Philippines has the highest incidence of breast cancer in Asia.  While we can provide support in many ways to our loved ones, we also become witnesses to the battle that they have to go through and how they are all very strong-willed and courageous.  To me, this is very important when you're battling cancer.  I had my very own battle myself of a different type of cancer three years ago, and I thank God everyday that I survived that.  Now, I am cancer free.

I had the privilege of listening to breast cancer survivors stories at Health Cube's recent Pink Party to raise breast cancer awareness.  They all have something in common, while they had breast cancer, they kept a positive attitude and the will power to fight it for themselves and their families, plus of course, full trust and faith in God.

Please do yourself a favor and be vigilant with your own body with the following steps:

1.  Do a breast self check:
  • Step 1:  Look at your breast in the mirror, with straight shoulders and your arms on your hips.   Look for any changes on the basic appearance of your breast.
  • Step 2:  Repeat with your arms raised, squeeze each nipple between your finger and thumb and check for any nipple discharge.
  • Step 3:  Lie down.  Use a firm, smooth touch with the three middle fingers of your hand keeping the fingers flat and together to feel your breast in a circular motion.
  • Step 4:  Finally, feel your breast while you are standing or sitting.  Follow the same procedure as in Step 3.

2.  Be on the look out for these signs:
  • Visible lump
  • Nipple changes
  • Breast swelling
  • Breast & nipple pain
  • Breast skin dimpling
  • Strange nipple discharge
  • Breast size change
  • Breast shape change
  • Scaliness or rashes on breast skin
3.  Get a Mammogram
If somebody told you that a mammogram is painful and its the one reason that is stopping you from getting one, please delete that from your memory.  Personally, I have both 2G and 3G mammograms myself and while it is not a comfortable thing to do, it is also not as painful as one may think.  Admittedly, there is discomfort at first but the pain is most definitely tolerable.

Mammograms can detect early signs of breast cancer and for me, there is nothing more important than having peace of mind all the time.  Health Cube, offers the latest in breast screening with their 3D Tomosynthesis Mammogram.  This test produces a 3-dimensional view of the breast that helps identify and characterize individual structures without confusion of overlapping tissue. Also called breast tomosynthesis, this new technology allows the physician to see thin mammography sections of the entire breast and gives a clearer image thus, decreasing the need for further examinations.

Health Cube's 3D Tomosynthesis Mammogram takes 10 minutes and costs Php 3,200.00.

During the Pink Party to raise Breast Cancer Awareness at Health Cube, aside from the 3D Tomosynthesis Mammogram, they also gave us a Whole Body Bone Densitometry.  It is an enhanced x-ray technology that measures the strength of your bones.  It can detect serious bone loss, otherwise known as osteoporosis, thus leading to prevention of fracture and disability.  It is the standard in checking bone mineral density.

Health Cube's Whole Body Denistometry takes 10 minutes and costs Php 5,000.00

Coming from a family with a breast cancer history, I completely understand the importance of having health teaching about breast self examination, awareness and treatment facilities for breast cancer all around the world... It's really important and a vital to know your health status (e.g breast, reproductive system) and since the procedure is kinda pricey I would be glad to take the opportunity to undergo and see for myself.. I really do hope to win this one! :)
