One Million Clean Toilets Movement 2015

I really admire companies who have advocacies that really make an impact and difference in the lives of Filipinos.  One such company is Unilever Philippines, through its germ-kill expert brand Domex, and in cooperation with UNICEF and PPHA (Philippine Public Health Association) will again spearhead the One Million Clean Toilets Movement.

Running on its third year, it aims to educate Filipinos on proper toilet hygiene to keep their families safe against disease-causing germs.  Illnesses spread through poor toilet sanitation includes diarrhoeal disease and parasitic worms that lead to poor health.  According to a study by the World Health Organization (WHO), children around the world miss 443 million school days each year because of these diseases.  This number of sick days translates to an equivalent of all grade school and high school in the Philippines being empty for one month.

According to Dr. Luisa Efren of the Philippine Public Health Association (PPHA),  practicing proper toilet hygiene can help prevent the spread of germs.  However, children are still vulnerable to these deadly diseases because many households still use ordinary laundry bleach which is not enough to kill all toilet germs.

"A toilet that looks clean to the naked eye may not necessarily be free from germs and bacteria.  So, it is very important to properly sanitize all surfaces using a germ-kill expert with proven efficacy in eliminating bacteria, and not just ordinary laundry bleach", Dr. Efren warned.

On November 13, it is World Toilet day once again. Let's support the One Million Clean Toilets Movement in the fight against disease by spreading awareness on the issue caused by unsanitary toilets.  Watch and share the "Sick Days" video below to help keep families and friends toilets germ free.
